Isaac Sibecas Photo Exhibition


The Catalan photographer Isaac Sibecas is a young and talented artist who has already shown in exhibition throughout Europe and Latin America. He currently works for the Spanish Embassy in Prague and for the Cervantes Institute in Prague (Lights of Bohemia - monthly sessions of readings), publishing at the same time his photos in various newspapers and magazines.
The exhibition has already been in Warsaw (09.2010) and Chorzów (11.2010), where it met with great interest the audience.


Photography has been his passion since childhood. As a third-generation photographer, Isaac Sibecas practically grew up in the darkroom of his home. Therefore, one can say that photography has undoubtedly always been his natural surrounding. The artist himself says he was born in the period in which both digital and analog cameras were used, thus combining in his works both the traditional and the modern. All this results in a kind of freedom and bravery which can be appreciated on mobile surfaces of the said pictures, while the way in which this artist sees and captures the world is unique and unrepeatable. Every single picture of his creates an original unit in which various techniques are combined. As this artist always leaves the doors open for interpretation, the observer can enter inconspicuously into this unique world of minimalism, insinuations, simplicity, plays of light and shadow and archaic black & white plays. An indeed extraordinary unity that every one of us can conclude on his/hers own wall.

The photo series collected under the title GEOMETRIA (geo - “earth” and metri- “measurement”) comprises works that can be divided into three major themes:

  • Point of View

  • Circus

  • Street Art

The said photos were taken between 2004 and 2010 in various locations throughout Europe and the artist used both the modern digital and the traditional analogue photographic techniques. All the exhibited works are in black and white.


The amazing play of shadow and light as well as the created perspective are extremely important in these works and it is due to them that the viewer can recognize different images in only one photo. In other words, a series of related works which at the same time are not clear in meaning, i.e. their multiple meanings heighten the contrast between such qualities like smoothness-roughness, roundedness-sharpness, light-shadow etc. In all these dimensions it is possible to catch the glimpse of a harmony which, by maintaining the correct proportions, creates a complete space of a city, any city, yours too.
